Samsung PN42C430 Review: 42” Plasma HDTV
Up for Review: Samsung PN42C430 Plasma TV. Just like the LED and LCD line, Samsung has given full attention to the Plasma line as well. It has almost customized the TVs for every kind of viewer. In this 42-inch model, the manufacturer has mainly emphasized on providing a large enough screen size which will look decent in the living room and yet with just the basic features which will keep the price on the lower side. People who have always wanted a Plasma TV can now afford to buy one and make it a part of the décor in the room. The depth is 2.7” which certainly cannot be classified as thin with the models now crossing the 1” barrier and looking really trim on the walls. This set will look better on the stand than on the walls.
In order to keep the price on the lower side, Samsung has maintained a resolution of 720p in this model which may disappoint some of the viewers. A display size of 42 inches certainly demands a resolution of 1080p which would have made the pictures sharper and the images much more prominent. But the Ultra Clear Panel has been kept intact which keeps the reflections away from the screen. You can view the TV under any lighting conditions and still see bright pictures without a trace of any reflections from the light sources in the room or outside. The available colors also make the images much more natural. A dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 makes sure that you get distinct blacks and whites.

Action scenes can be seen with great clarity and crispness because of the 600Hz Subfield motion refresh rate. Watching fast moving pictures on this Plasma TV can be really enterprising and you can almost feel the characters performing live in front of you. The set’s rapid motion response time also makes sure that you don’t see any ghosted or blurred images which might lead to eye strain. To make the pictures still more soothing for the eyes, there is a built-in smart light sensor which tunes the TV according to the light outside. The brightness on the screen is automatically adjusted for sunny or dark surroundings so that you can enjoy the images better. This also helps to conserve the energy in the set.
Samsung has ensured that this set exceeds the requirements of the Energy Star specifications. It uses very little energy which makes this model much more eco-friendly. As far as connectivity issues are concerned, there are 2 HDMI which may again be a cause of concern for people who want to connect many high definition devices to the set. You have to choose between the Blu-ray player, camcorder, gaming device or any other gadget that you want to connect to the TV. However, there are 2 component inputs, 1 composite input, 1 PC input and 1 USB port in the model which give you plenty of options to connect other devices. This is a good set for basic HDTV viewing. For a price of $549.99 MSRP, it gives you ample features.
